Heart attacks are actually the number one cause of death for vacationers. Let’s discuss why.
Who doesn’t indulge when going on when you go on vacation? Your entire routine is changed. You start eating differently, usually drink more alcohol, forget to take your medications, and change up your physical activity routine. All things we do but as we do them, we need to pay close attention to what our body is telling us.
Our families should be aware of these risk factors while on vacation. Carrying aspirin at all times can be the one quick action to save your loved one from a fatal heart attack. At the very first sign of heart disease, pop an aspirin in your mouth and chew it. There is absolutely no risk factor in taking an aspirin if what you are experiencing is simply a bad case of indigestion.
If you are vacationing in colder climates, that cold weather can be hard on the heart. Blood vessels constrict, which raises blood pressure. Blood also clots more readily. Frigid temperatures increase strain on the heart, and too much physical exertion can worsen the burden and trigger a heart attack.
When temperatures drop, the heart has to work harder to help maintain your body’s core temperature. Reasons could be that cold weather may influence the human body in other ways (such as hormones or blood vessel constriction) to also increase the likelihood of a heart attack.
Many of us can’t wait to get to that beach vacation spot and relax for hours in the sun. Dehydration is is caused by our body is sweating too much and that sweating can lead to dehydration. Dehydration reduces our volume of blood. When our blood volume is reduced our heart must pump harder which can cause a heart attack.
Increasing our fluid intake while basking in the summer fun can keep our hearts healthy. Cool beer and fancy alcoholic drinks often indulged in just increases your risk for dehydration.
Most importantly while on vacation don’t stray too far from your regular healthy habits.
